Margaret Zweck recordings – memories of Light Pass and Rechner Cottage

Margaret Zweck moved to Light Pass in the 70’s, as the wife of the minister at Strait Gate Lutheran church. Margaret has always had a passion for history. Shortly after arriving at Light Pass, she became aware that Luhrs Cottage, an old, dilapidated pug cottage overgrown with vines, was going to be demolished. Not on her watch! She rallied support to prevent the demolition, and when funds became available from a Luhrs descendent for restoration, she mobilized community enthusiasm and support for the project.

Margaret loved fossicking around the old buildings and was not averse to a bit of digging to see what may have been hidden over time. She discovered the beautiful little bone implements buried in the dirt at Rechner Cottage and has gifted them to us for eventual display. Her recordings are full of interesting tidbits of information about the two cottages – Rechner Cottage and Luhrs Cottage.
